New School Essay I didnt think I would ever fall in love, come to think of it I never thought I would fall for Romeo, my best friend. Lets just say that love gets people in ways which you wouldnt expect.It was a Tuesday morning. It had finally come; the day when I was moving schools. I can still remember what was going through my head that morning. Thank god Im out of that shit hole I sighed, I was so nervous, what if I dont make any friends what if everyone hates me I sighed again. All those negative thoughts where rushing through my head, I was very sure I was gonna punk out but I kept my cool. I had just finished having a bath and I was going to find something to wear.Dont get me wrong I have so many clothes, but trust me its all about the mood the weathers in and the mood Im in. As soon as I opened my wardrobe, clothes came piling out DAMN! I thought I need to do some spring cleaning! I usually take a long time to get ready but seeing as this was my first day at a new school I HAD to take my time . The sun was hitting in through my window so I decided to go ghetto and wear my denim dungarees, white tank top with top gurl written on it, and my dark blue converses.I put on some lip gloss, popped sum chewing gum in my mouth, grabbed my dark blue and light blue Nike Just do it bag and then I ran down the stairs to the kitchen, to find a note on the counter, it was from mum; Honey I have gone to work. Well duh I thought. Ten pounds is in the draw. P.s/make sure youre not late.I scrunched up the note and threw it in the bin. I then headed to the draw, pulled it open and took out the ten pounds that my mum had left for me.Mum works at a bank, I am considering studying law when I go to university. I know it seems like a long time away but youve got to be prepared. I love History and it just seems like a well paying job.My dad died of a liver cancer when I was two. So I guess it wasnt really painful for me at that time seeing as I was still very young and I didnt understand what was happening. When I was in primary school nearly everyone had a dad I was really confused, it must have been hard for my mum because I kept on asking her where my dad was and shed always tell me that he was in a lovely place. Well Im hurt now because I didnt get to know him, and all I have is a picture of me in his arms when I was a newborn. Mum does date but they just come and go.I took my keys, my ipod, and my phone from the counter, and opened my front door. I realised that I had forgotten something and descended back to my kitchen counter to get my sunglasses. I got out of my house then I locked the door. I then unlocked my garage, and then I unlocked the chains from my electric scooter.The only reason I use an electric scooter is to get around because Im too young to drive a car and Im too young to ride a moped, its all good though. I had to save up and buy it with my own money (no fair) because my mum said she wasnt going to waste good money on an electric scooter when she could spend it on something else and I said well then what Im I going to do?, she was like take public transport, I was like the bus? OH HELL NAH!!I walked my scooter out of the garage then I locked the garage door. Then I was finally off, I knew the location of the school because I had been there twice to take tests, and might I add that all of the tests I had taken I had passed. It took about fifteen minutes to get there on the scooter.It was the beginning of July, summer; my favourite part of the year, the sun was shining directly into my eyes so I put on my sunglasses. I also turned my ipod on, and it started playing so what by Field Mob ft. Ciara, that was the jam back then, and everyone was playing it.Im 5ft5 1/2; I like to think that thats an average height but people say Im short. I have shoulder length hair. Im a black girl with green eyes, Im 15 years old and Im a Scorpio, I think that zodiac is sick. I might get a tattoo of a Scorpion on my lower back when Im a bit older, my m um would kill me I ever got a tattoo done while living under her roof.2Different SceneryWhen I finally got to my new school my nerves returned. WELCOME TO ST. JOHNS where written in big bold black letters on the gate. I turned my ipod off and got off my scooter to chain it, I learnt that nearly half of the school owned electric scooters. Students were entering the school gates. I was told to go to the reception when I arrived. I walked on a long path to get to actual building. Once I got into the building I turned to my first right. There it was the reception just how it was the previous time I had been there to visit. I took off my sunglasses. Students were making their way to their form rooms.May I help you? asked the lady behind the deskShe was a stubby lady, probably over 40 and she looked like she had been working at St. Johns for a long time.Erm. Hi Im Khia Williams I replied in a low voiceNice to meet you Khia, you are the new student starting 10a, right? she askedErm. Yea I answeredWell do not be nervous you will be just fine. You walk through the door just there she said pointing to a green door, she handed me a key with 301 on it that is for your locker, your class is on the second door to the right and you will see 10a written on the door. She explainedOk thanks I said walking off.All those negative thoughts that were rushing through my head earlier that morning were rushing through my head at that precise moment.I finally got to the door which had 10a written on it, it wasnt hard to find, and next to the classrooms were the lockers that the receptionist had given me a key for. I took a deep breath in and a deep breath out. I turned the knob of the door.Ah Khia Williams, I remembered the guy, Mr. Ross; I met him at the meeting with the head teacher the other time. He was so tall and he wore round glasses and his trousers were pulled up so they looked like ankle swingers, I tried not to laugh. Nice to see you again, as you know I will be your teacher for the rest of the year and this will be your form for the rest of the yearEverybody was staring at me, some smiling and some looking at me blankly until I heard a voice say:Girl even in dungarees you look sexyBy now all the boys were laughing. I looked to the back of the classroom, where I thought I had heard the voice come from. A boy was rocking on his chair smirking at me, I was sure it was him. He was a black boy with coolly hair; he had it tied up in a pony tail. He was wearing a white t-shirt, denim jeans and white air forces.Ok thats enough said Mr. Ross Khia take a seatBaby you can come and sit on daddys lap if you wantAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! all the boys started laughing again.I took no notice of them; I thought to myself he must have been the stupidest boy in the class.I SAID THATS ENOUGH! Said Mr. RossEvery teacher has a strict side, everyone got quite.I started looking around for a seat then I saw him, Romeo, dark brown eyes with tight cornrows all back but complic ated and he had on a white head band, wore baggy denim jeans, white air force ones with a green tick and a white t-shirt, on top of that he had on a green and white Magic jersey. He wore diamond studded earrings on each ear and a sliver chain with a capital R on it. It was right then that I knew his name had to start with the letter R, I can still remember how he looked at me; he just smiled acknowledging me. I smiled back at him.You can sit here if you want he offered, his voice was so deep.For sure I said, eyes still on himSorry on behalf of my boy T hes crazy, dont mind him he apologisedHow sweet I thought, he apologised on behalf of his friend, who mind you was being incredibly obnoxious.I assured him Its all rightI sat next to him and might I add how he smelled mmmmmm cologne I thought he was the cutest boy in the class, and I also thought that we would set it off.Can everyone turn their text books to page 62 now said Mr. RossEveryone did as they were told; I and Romeo were sha ring a text book. Even though we were told to settle down the room was still noisy, I thought to myself I am gonna fit in this class. I put my head down, and sat in silence.At the end of the math lesson, Mr. Ross handed me a diary and showed me the page were my schedule was. I checked for my next lesson and was disappointed to see that it was German. I had been learning German at my old school and I hated it. It was so boring but it wasnt optional. I put my diary into my bag, got up from my seat and was heading out of the door when I heard Romeo say; So what lesson you got now?I signed I got German from that sigh he could tell that I wasnt happy about it.Dont worry, I got German too and I hate it, but it aint optional, if it was up to me nobody would learning languages trust meI smiled at him. We were sat next to each other. In Douglas High we had six lessons but in St. Johns we have five lessons so I was quite happy about that. He was off like a shot.3New FriendsI didnt know where the cafeteria was so I just followed the crowd. When I entered the cafeteria I went to get my food then started to look around for a table.I heard a female voice say; Khia! Right?I turned around to the direction of where the voice had come from. When I saw who it was I answered. The Anarchist Utopia Essays - Political Philosophy, Politics The Anarchist Utopia Anarchist Utopia The world is in turmoil. Wars are fought solely for economic gain, children are shooting their fellow classmates, people are starving, and people are dying. But why is this happening? Why do these things have to happen? Well, they dont have to happen. This is all a result of corrupt governments caring for nothing but money. These governments are sending their own citizens to war, and they do not care who gets killed, just which side wins. This is unjust and must not continue. People think about these things, but do nothing about them, and as the saying goes, silence is consent. By not doing anything about this we allow these things to continue. We allow our governments to murder our family, our friends, and even ourselves. This is why I propose that we begin a new order in which we abandon governments altogether and instate an anarchist system in which all men, women, and children are equal, but in their own way different and unique. Everyones worth is the same, but their thoughts ar e different. And this is the ideal society. In order for there to be a true utopia, we need to eliminate a few things. One is government, for as long as there is somebody above us in social status, we can never be truly equal and free. Next are laws made by the common man that not everybody agrees with, for if there are laws that not everybody agrees with, then there is oppression. And lastly, is a monetary system, because as they say, money is the root of all evil. The way that we maintain order in such a society is through a principle called Altruism, which is a principle that states that all people care for each other. Without such a principle, society cannot maintain order, and keep in mind that anarchy is not synonymous with chaos. Anarchy is lack of government, where as chaos is lack of order. Anyway, the reason we need altruism is because, instead of laws, the way that we determine what is right and what is wrong is by determining a persons inherent rights. If a person then violates another persons rights, then that is wrong, and society as a whole punishes that person fittingly. The way that this works is that its based on the principal of the social contract. The social contract theory states that in order to have protection from a society, you must give up some of your liberties. In this case, the liberties that you would have to give up are the liberties to violate the rights of others, and to intentionally rise in power. These rules are made so as to weed out all those who would purposely disrupt the society and dissolve it and also to maintain order in such a system. This also makes it so that only the good natured people would enter. Remember, this society is strictly a voluntary society. No one has to enter if they dont want to and thats one of the best things about the anarchist utopia, is that involvement is entirely voluntary! An education system would be non-existent. Instead of children going to school, each generation is taught by the previous generation. This has been shown to work in indigenous tribes. In the ideal society, where the aforementioned principles are taught, people dont need to work in order to buy material possessions. Instead, the sole motivation to work is to gather the necessities of life (i.e. water, food, shelter, etc) and each generation would teach what is needed to be known in order to get these things. And that is why education is not necessary in this society. In this society, conflict would be handled in a proper manner, depending on the conflict. For example, if the conflict is about a difference in ideas, the conflict would be settled in a debate-like manner with an audience (whether it be one, or many) that decides whos right. But if the conflict gets to the point of violence, then further action is taken by the society in the form of a tribunal in which the entire society is gathered by either physical means, or through the media,

La Belle Dame Sans Merci To Autumn

La Belle Dame Sans Merci To Autumn I have chosen to compare these two poems both written by Keats. Keats was only 26 years old when he died, and wrote La Belle Dame Sans Merci just three years before this. He died of tuberculosis along with his mother and brother. His brother passed away in 1919, a year after both poems were written, indicating that the poems may have some significance to Keatss feelings and emotions in both poems. To Autumn is a poem celebrating the beauty of nature in the season of autumn. It is a very sensuous poem with lots of strong imagery. In To Autumn there is a very regular iambic pentameter rhyme scheme and there are three stanzas each eleven lines long. The regular rhyme scheme contributes to the calmness and serenity of the poem and highlights the poems ode like qualities, with nothing but praise for the different aspects of the season. By contrast La Belle Dame Sans merci is a narrative poem written in ballad quatrains, which are all rhyming couplets, It also has a lot more stanzas that have fewer lines. This cuts off the regularity and the harmonious feel is broken unlike in To Autumn. Another way Keats splits up the rhythm is by using caesura (he uses a lot of dashes which create pauses and breaks in his work. From the start of To Autumn we see mists and mellow and fill all fruit These two pieces of alliteration in the first stanza help the poem sound appealing and run smoothly of the tongue. Perhaps the sound made when reciting mists and mellow could be likened to bees buzzing which would be a great way of Keats incorporating nature into a poem about nature. In the second stanza the rhetorical question Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store? is asked, helping to engage the reader and makes them think about nature. I think there is a change in tone in the second stanza from the from first. In the first we are given images of wonderful fullness that nature is bringing to objects such as fill all fruit with ripeness to the core and plump the hazel shells. These create a sense of achievement and perfectness being instilled into objects in nature and create a proud and triumphant mood. However in the second stanza the mood is that of a slow moving and relaxed one. The words drowsd and sound asleep are used which are related to relaxation and the phrase sitting careless on a granary floor is used, suggesting there is no rush about things, again relating to the overall slow moving mood of this stanza. thy soft hair lifted by a winnowing wind is a nice phrase using personification (winnowing wind) to add to the relaxing feeling the poet is trying to convey. Another word that cements the slow moving tone is oozing which keats uses to describe cider being pressed The third stanza lists some of the the sounds of nature, but describes them in a bounteous and praising way. Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn is a line that demonstrates how keats can turn something normally overlooked into something that catches your attention and makes you appreciative about it. He does this by describing the gnats as a choir, a group that represents disciplined order and talent. He describes them as a wailful and says that they mourn, by describing them as having so much emotion it helps us to realise that they are complex and are purposeful. Keats also uses an interesting juxtaposition soft dying on the third line of this stanza to describe the day, soft suggests calm and gentleness, however death is the imminent end. I think Keats wants us to appreciate the sheer beauty of nature in this poem, and his intention is to make us believe as strongly as possible that this beauty around us is not to be taken for granted. In my mind he has instilled a strong representation of his perception of nature. I think hes done this by using such great visual and descriptive imagery as well as appealing to the senses. In this poem we are bombarded with reference to on sense or another and in the 3 stanzas every one of the five senses are mentioned, clammy cells instantly remind you of touch whereas the fume of poppies draws you to imagine the smell in your own head, all the references to these senses build a stronger picture in your head of the painting Keats is trying to paint. Keats creates strong imagery in this ballad and focuses on every sense, we have sound- they criedand sweet moan, taste sweet relish, smell fragrant zone and a passage that brilliantly describes the womans beauty Full beautiful-a faerys child, Her hair was long, her foot was light, And her eyes were wild this creates a perfect image of the womans beauty, perhaps the fact she is a faerys child heightens her good looks as this image could not be achieved by a normal human being. Keats uses the metaphor on thy cheeks a fading rose, this uses flowers (bringing nature into it) to show how his cheeks are rosy, but are fading just like a rose, this could mean that the life is draining from the man. i see a lily on thy brow is another metaphor that brings attention to his pale forehead through the use of flowers. As the narrator is using these terms about the knight it could bring a clue to his personality, someone fond of nature perhaps? Throughout the ballad we see countless examples of the word wild being used, eyes were wild, i shut her wild, wild eyes and honey wild this repetition shows the relation or association the poet wants to give the poem to nature. In this poem nature reflects the position of the knight, however in To Autumn nature is personified in a much more positive way and Autumn is personified as being close bosom-friend of the maturing sun which shows its friendliness in that it is conspiring with the sun. The metaphor sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep is used and Autumn is also personified to have thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind and to be someone who watchest the last oozings hours by hours. In-fact the whole second stanza is an extended personification of Autumn carrying out relaxing activities related to the relaxing nature of the season. The tone of this poem is very lifeless with a very gloomy atmosphere, the knight is described as being haggard which shows tiredness and he is palely loitering which shows he has no purpose about him or what he will do, this women has made his life worthless with no path. The landscape is barron and possibly the season of winter as no birds sing. Authenticity of a medieval timezone is also added by old fashioned spellings such as faery instead of fairy. As we know, both poems are about nature although the way in which all life has been sucked out of the knight shown by the description that he is palely loitering and how Keats shows the bleakness and cold of the situation by describing warriors as death pale with starved lips. He also describes the scenery as cold and the sedge is withered from the lake. This desolate and isolated feel is in complete contrast the way the surrounding in To Autumn is teaming with life and fruit is filled with ripeness to the core. With everything reaching its full potential with the help from the seasons. An example of this is the way that he writes that summer has oerbrimmed their clammy cells. To Autumn has much more praise and descriptions of the beauty of nature. In The Belle Dame Sans Merci I think Keats intentions are to show perhaps how the naivety of falling into love could end with such undesirable consequences with no way out(especially when they dont love you as much as you love them). In the poem the knights disappointment would be less severe if he did not believe from the beginning of their affair that the fairy child loved him in equal measure. She appears to fall in love with the knight just as he is falling for her. The look she gives him in line 19 and her sweet moan might be read as signs of her love, and the presents she gives him are further proof they are equally balanced in their feelings for one another. She even takes him back to her home, her elfin grot, and makes him feel comfortable. It would be natural for him to assume she is as interested as he is in continuing their relationship when he awakes. However you cant be sure the knights intense feeling when he finds his lady gone is caused primarily by the loss of her. I t could be that he is suffering from the disappointing conclusion that she never really loved him as much as he thought she did. By the end of the poem he clearly feels alone, but he does not show any hatred toward her. The only clues the poem gives about whether or not the lady may have felt love for the knight come from the people who visit the knight in his dream and tell him the lady is pitiless, that she has no mercy, Them coming to him also suggest she has done it do them before and he is another person to have fallen into her cruel trap. To Autumn is an example of an Ode as it is addressed to somebody and written in stanzas. La Belle Dame Sans Merci apart from the obvious difference of a French title contains all the necessary elements of a Ballad; it is a quatrain with the second and fourth line of each stanza rhyming and has much shorter lines. Also Autumn is written as an address to a season while La Belle Dame Sans Merci is a dialogue. A similarity is that the two poems share a common setting, this being autumn. As well as the giveaway from the title in To Autumn Keats writes about the landscape With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run and still more, later flowers for the bees, two extracts from the first stanza which describe Autumn. In La Belle Dame Sans Merci also in the first stanza it says The sedge has witherd from the lake which is an scenario that happens in autumn. Another common feature is the poems sensuality, as both use descriptions relating to all the senses. This is integral to the atmosphere as the sensuality makes the setting and events so much more authentic in the readers mind. This nature and sensuality are very closely linked in both poems, everything to do with the senses is natural. However there is a difference in the way nature is referred to in La Belle Dame Sans Merci. because there is a peripeteia, the faery who is most natural thing in the ballad and who has given the knight so much pleasure sucks the life from him when he least expects it And there she lulled me asleep. The faery that has seemed to give life and personify nature is the same one that took away life from the knight. There are also many contrasts between the two poems of Keats. The tone of the poems are very different. To Autumn is rich, positive, happy and praising the goodness of life and nature. La Belle Dame Sans Merci is enchanted however very sad and desolate. To Autumn is full of long wholesome words with many syllables exaggerating the fulness, like fruitfulness, winnowing and conspiring. As well as these Keats uses hyphenated words bosom-friend, soft-lifted and half-reapd. These words add to the rich feelings and complex structure of the poem and break the rhythm up as I said earlier. La Belle Dame Sans Merci is written in a much simpler direct way using many short monosyllabic words And no birds sing or And her eyes were wild. This makes the poem very sharp and harsh, with to the point phrases. When you read To Autumn it has to be read slowly to savour the bountiful description Keats is creating, but La Belle Dame Sans can be read quickly to keep up with the pace of the story being to ld. In To Autumn throughout the poem the season is gradually changing.The bees think warm days will never cease for summer has oevbrimmd their clammy cells indicates there are still some characteristics left of summer, but later on in the poem it says that the red breast whistles from a garden croft, indicating the arrival of winter. This movement through the season is relaxed and will repeat every year. This could relate to how Keats was aware of his oncoming death but was calm and accepting of it, shown in the relaxed feel of this poem. Perhaps Keats ballad was an opposite point of view, showing how he felt he was trapped in a place and loitering until his death? Or maybe the two poems could both indicate different things in his life. In La Belle Dame Sans Merci The poem itself could be a metaphor for events in Keats own life. Keats had recently lost a brother to tuberculosis and he himself was. a lily on thy brow and on thy cheeks a fading rose, both these lines could be interpreted as symptoms for the disease. La Belle Dame may (or may not) be referring to a woman Keats met who distracted him, from his vocation, and as he was in such a bad state she could be wasting what little time left he had on the word. Autumn could then be some of his work she was distracting him from, the work praising the world and drawing attention to the beauty that was appreciated by him as he knew he would miss it so much. In conclusion the two different styles of writing poetry (the Ode and Ballad) which would normally be so different are made similar in many ways by what Keats has added to them, he has added his touch and it is these personal features that run through both poems which links them and makes them exciting.

From Apocalyptic to Messianic: Philosophia Universalis ABSTRACT: Perhaps for the first time in history, the turn of a millennium is directly reflected in philosophy-as an apocalyptic end of philosophy. Recently, an attempt to channel apocalyptic into messianic has been undertaken by Derrida in his Spectres of Marx. However, Derrida's endeavor does not relate directly to philosophy and thus does not alter its apocalyptic landscape. Considering the critical state of contemporary philosophy, it is unclear whether such an alteration can be performed in the West. A radical reinterpretation appears to be much more probable when undertaken from an outside position. It may be that this is the case with the Philosophia Universalis developed by the Russian-American David Zilberman (1938-1977) from classical Hindu philosophies and applied, as a new synthesis, to Western philosophy. Major ideas of the Philosophia Universalis as well as its principal results and achievements comprise the content of this presentation. Different personal types exist around the world. Each type is specific for each person, and it is how we can see differences from the other people. My type of personality abbreviation is (ESTJ). It means that I am (E) extravert, (S) sensing, (T) thinking and (J) judging. On the other hand my learning style preference is a combination of aural and kinesthetic because I think that we need to listen or see methods to learn anything. It means that you need to practice or you need that someone tells you how can you do anything for you know how can you do it. Personally I think that you learn when you practice what you want to learn. As I say, I am extravert. I think that it helps in my process of learning because it makes be able to explain and discuss my points of view, that I can have many friends that can help me with anything that I need and the most important thing that I can work with my class mates in a friendly environment that facilitates the process of learning. For example, I am Colombian and English is not my first language. Sometimes I do not understand some things, but I try to make many friends in each Santiesteban 2 class and they have helped me so much in the homework‘s or classwork‘s that I maybe do not understand. I also try to speak every time with them and it helps to improve my English in the short time that I have been here. Secondly, I tend to be sensing and I think that allows to me be specific in what I need to learn and that I take methods, examples or ideas that I already learned to apply for life. For example in the process of learning when I need to learn anything, I need specific explanations of How can I do it and personally I think that the specific answers are the best method to learn because it gives you the way that you must follow step by step to finally get what you want, in this case learn what you need. Third, I choose thinking, being a thinking person is appropriate in a learning process because you can make good decisions without involving your feelings, do your things being impartial and impersonal, you are fair with everything you do and do not think about the causes but the impact. An example of this is the teachers, they have to be thinking people because they have to be impersonal at the time of rank and rate the student and don’t think if they are close to them or know them or are friends with them. They have to be fair with every decision they make, and if they involve feelings they do wrong their job and teaching in a bad way that later will affect the student to a short or long term. Santiesteban 3 Finally, I am a judging person and I think is a thing that could have a big influence in your life; like you can have an exigent life, and be demanding with the decisions you make, keeping your things in order and being responsible with all that I have to do, thinking about the future and what the decision would bring to me. Being a judging person is better for learning because you require much effort of you and every time you are asking yourself for more and not conforming to a lame job, working firmly until the end and never giving up on things you started, always being punctual and showing that you can get really good results if you work hard. I think that it helped me so much because I learned things about my personality and my learning style that really I did not know and now I can use these things to make my process of learning easier. I define myself principally as a responsible person. I think that it is where we have to base to get our goals. If we are responsible and we work with effort, I am sure that we can get whatever we want. I need to know difference when use the aural style to learning and when use the kinesthetic style because I tend to use always the aural style, but sometimes we need to make the things, I learn from the experience of something that we have practiced before.

Theres a Jack Russell and a King Charles, a cockatoo Miss Peepers and a cage full of finches. Theres a goldendoodle, an Australian shepherd, a standard poodle, and now Rosss two Persians and another cat. A second tropical bird is at a Memphis vet. The journalist is writing about a man whose obituary requested that memorial donations be made to the local humane society. When he visited the family home and saw the multitude of pets, the memorial request took on greater significance. The existence of the orphaned animals caused the request to come into relief, but not into comic relief. The noun relief has two usual meanings. One kind of relief is ease or alleviation given to or received by a person through the removal or lessening of some cause of distress or anxiety. For example, Passengers  are breathing a  sigh of relief  after an Ebola scare at Los Angeles International Airport. Another kind of relief is the projection of a design from a flat surface. For example, The alabaster wall panel shows the mounted figure of King Ashurbanipal in relief. This latter meaning of relief is used figuratively to mean vividness, distinctness, or prominence due to contrast. The journalist cited above may have been amused by the Doctor Doolittle-esque collection of animals, but his personal amusement does not justify the use of the term comic relief in the context. Expository Essay on Drugs Are drugs a curse in society? In our generation, we have access to an array of drugs on a scale never before seen by humankind. Most people, when you mention drugs, tend to think immediately of street and recreational drugs, such as heroin, ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana. However, they are only a few of the thousands of kinds of drugs consumed. Doctors today prescribe drugs daily, and the variety of kinds, and uses, is endless. The issue; is this a good practice in our society. Or is it a curse. The evidence reveals drugs are a benefit to society. The results of taking these drugs is largely positive. Since medicine moved to using pharmaceutical drugs many people suffering from diseases have been helped. Either, prevented from getting disease, cured when diseased, or able to live comfortably with the disease. Smallpox was entirely wiped out by a vaccination developed by Fleming in 1800. Polio a disease that causes permanent paralysis has almost been eradicated by vaccinations. Those living with diabetes’s, and HIV, have been able to live comfortably with their particular disease because of the use of daily drug treatments. Multitudes with depression have benefited by taking Prozac, and various drugs, such as Valium and Dexedrine. The countless numbers of people who take antibiotics for a multitude of causes often recover, where if they did not have antibiotics they would have died. In an age of transplants, and implants, drugs stop the body from rejecting the new material, and thus the recipient lives. Even marijuana is being used as medicine for cancer patients. If you count the cost, it is clear that the use of drugs in society has positive results. Why then do some argue that taking drugs is not a good thing for people to do? The primary reason is they confuse drug abuse with drug use. There are 3 areas of abuse that do cause much damage. Firstly, the use of the so-called street drugs as recreational drugs is abuse. Heroin, and Cocaine used induce a euphoria is abuse. LSD taken to experience hallucinations, Ecstasy taken to rave at a party, and Marijuana smoked to induce a mood, is abuse. This results in the consequences of addiction, with its attendant loss of employment, divorce, crime and prison. Secondly, drug abuse takes place in the suburban home by abusing prescription drugs. People lie to doctors about symptoms to obtain drugs that induce moods. Tranquilizers are taken when not needed for stress, uppers, taken without corresponding depression, are being abused. As many of these are respectable†, they are preferred by the mainstream of society. Taking a valium hardly is noticed, but smoking marijuana in school will be. Thirdly, there are doctors who do not practice medicine ethically. Instead of seeking causes, it is easier to prescribe a tablet that eases the symptoms, even when regular use of the drug is harmful. In conclusion, it is evident that drugs have benefited society in many ways. Healing, eradicating diseases enabling people to live comfortably with medical conditions, and above all saving lives. The downside has been that some in society, both in the criminal and mainstream societies, have taken to abusing drugs with disastrous consequences. Society needs to find ways to develop drugs, and reduce the abuse.
